How to Make a Dream Pillow

Dream pillows are used to promote restful sleep and pleasant dreams. They are small and flat, placed in a standard pillow, and stuffed with a sachet of calming and sleep-inducing dried herbs. As the sleeper sleeps, movements of the head will gently crush the herbs to release delightful scents and please the senses throughout the night.
For this project you will need:
  • one 16 x 5 inch rectangle of fabric (cotton, silk, etc)
  • a sewing machine or a needle and thread for hand sewing
  • pillow stuffing or 1 cup rice
  • 1 cup of dried aromatic herbs
  • (optional) a few drops of preferred essential oil (such as lavender, chamomile, rose)
Dried herbs may be harvested at home, purchased online or at local markets. Choose herbs to fit the mood and fragrance preferred. Dried rose petals, for instance, emit a floral and romantic fragrance while rosemary and mints will give you a clean, invigorating and slightly spicy result. Chamomile has a light apple-like fragrance while dried sweet woodruff emits a wonderful vanilla scent. The best way to find the right combination is to experiment. Here are some herbal suggestions:
  • Mugwort
  • Lavender
  • Hops
  • Rosemary
  • Cedar
  • Peppermint
  • Chamomile
Begin by folding the rectangle of cloth in half, lengthwise. Use your sewing machine (or needle and thread), to sew up the long sides of the rectangle, but leave the top open to make a little pouch. Turn the pouch inside out so that the seams are inside. Now, fill this pouch with your choice of stuffing (don’t over-stuff) or rice and the dried herbs. Seal the dream pillow by sewing the remaining side closed. You can make the pillow refillable by stitching some Velcro on the open ends of the fabric. Add a few drops of essential oil to the pillow, if desired. Place the dream pillow/sachet inside of your pillowcase before bed.

Charm of Happiness Attraction

A charm that can help bring happiness into your life.

    •    dandelions
    •    bright and colorful yarn or thread
    •    yellow fluorite (if you don’t have it any yellow stone will do~)
    •    a small piece of paper
    •    yellow drawstring bag or yellow bottle

Gather these items, making sure the plants are properly dried so they don’t mold. As you gather these items think about how you want your life to become better and happier.
As you gather these items you may chant “Bright color yellow, let my sadness mellow.”
Now once you are done, take the piece of paper and write “happiness” upon it. Then burn the paper. Add the ashes to the mix.
Place all of the items into the bottle/bag to carry around when you need it. You should place it in your bedroom when not in use.

Spruce Smoke Cleansing

Primary use: clearing emotions, breaking in new homes, stirring inspiration and motivation and dispelling apathy.

Materials needed:
  • spruce cone and source of ignition;
  • optionally, music and a fan.
You want the cone to be wet enough that it won’t explode into flames but will smolder nicely. The smoke produced is intensely calming and pleasant scented.

Garden Blessing

Goal:
To Bless a magical or mundane garden.
Materials:
  • green or brown candle
  • pot of soil (If you can’t be outside)
  • packet of seeds or flowering plant/herb
  • picture of your ideal garden plan
  • smoke cleansing stick
  • salt
  • water
Notes:
This can be done inside with the above items prior to the gardening season, or it can be done outside with just the cleansing stick and the salt and water mixed. If you are inside, visualize the garden and go through the symbolic act of planting something. If you are outside, you can walk the perimeter of your garden space, wafting the cleansing stick and sprinkling the salt/water around the edges of the area you want to bless (be careful not to use too much salt, since it can damage plants). You can say the spell as you are doing this, before, or after. This spell is best done on a sunny day.
  • Green and growing, full of life
  • Bless this garden mine
  • A calm oasis free from strife
  • Touched by gifts divine
  • Let this garden grow and thrive
  • Be free of weed or pest
  • Through seasons changing and alive
  • Like nature’s treasure chest
  • Whether herb or fruit or flower
  • Let plants and seedlings grow
  • Strong and healthy, filled with power
  • Beneath the sun’s bright glow

Witch’s Wreath

Materials
  • brown thread
  • dried red roses
  • shallot husks
  • garlic bulb bottom
  • two garlic clove husks
  • cloves
  • chipboard with sigils (This girl added her apt. number.)
  • ivy vine segment
  • birch twiglets with catkins
  • 30-some London plane tree twigs
Making the Wreath
To make the wreath itself, separate my twigs out into long & girthy (5), mid-length & middling thickness (two groups of 5 or 6), and the shortest & thinnest (five groups of 3 or 4).
The longest, thickest twigs were bound to each other in a rough pentagon base using the brown thread. The first group of middling twigs then got bound at either end to the midsections of two base twigs. Second group of middling ones got bound to the previous group in the same way, building on the layers and rounding out the wreath. At this point you can just resorted to weaving the smaller twiglets through the gaps in a clockwise whorl, accenting the wreath’s outer edge, and applying glue with a cheap brush at the points of contact as needed. You can also also used the PVA glue to coat & reinforce the thread bindings.
Before you start applying the smaller decorative elements, it’s a good idea to first determine which end of your wreath will be “up” when upright and flat against a door or wall. This is also crucial if you wish to suspend a central element, like chipboard sigils / door numbers. During the construction it will gradually become apparent which curvy or branched twig will serve best to hook over a nail or other support so that the wreath hangs well.
This is a fantastic way to signal “hark! a witch lives here” without being glaringly obvious, so those of you in the broom closet can stake a claim to your space in a sneakily blatant way!
